"The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not be in want." Psalm 23:1
CUTEST FIRST GRADERS EVER!!
*Belt Reminder -- Remember, if your child's skirt/pants have belt loops, they need to have a belt on. There have been several who are forgetting this part of the dress code lately, so be sure to check behind your child after they get dressed! Thanks so much.
*Snack Reminder -- Be sure you are packing a healthy snack for your child. Something like water or juice (no soda, tea, koolaid, etc.), fruit, crackers, yogurt, etc. (no cookies, please). They need nutritious snacks to help them stay focused on our classwork in the morning.
*Show 'n Tell -- Elizabeth and Camryn

Bible: We have learned Psalm 23 so well, I think they are ready to be graded on it this week. We have also started the "N" verse (Mt. 6:24) and "P" verse (Ps. 147:1). We are studying the life of Christ in Bible class. This past week saw Christ healing blind Bartimaeus and Jairus' daughter. We are enjoying acting these stories out -- ask your child what they have done to help out! Everyone gets to do something, even if it is just being a part of the crowd who listens to Jesus and follows Him (lots of stomping feet here!).
Phonics:
Our test (covering list 19) is on Thursday, March 11. We are still learning about syllables, suffixes, and now prefixes. For example, "big" to "bigger", and "sleep" to "asleep". We have just been introduced to prefixes, which are easy after mastering suffixes. We are also working on ABC order. Be sure to have your child look at their spelling list each night and practice the words; they do not have to write it out necessarily, but at least look it over for a few minutes.
Reading: We are now reading The Bridge Book (Lions & Tigers) and Stepping Stones (Bears). Don't forget to check your child's marble notebook every night and then sign it after the work has been completed. Thanks!! Also, I want to teach them personal responsibility for bringing their book back (it's not Mom & Dad's job, it's theirs). The first time it is not brought back I give them grace. After that, it will be 2 min. of recess lost. NOTE: Only Fun with Pets will be sent home to keep; the other books we will hang onto for next year, so please do not allow them to write in them! Thank you!!
Writing: We are finishing up our stories on Abraham Lincoln and will then do some review on the harder letters. Their stories are shaping up very nicely!
Math: We are still working on shapes this week: solid/plane figures, symmetry, patterns. We are having lots of fun with these! We will test over this next Monday (3/15).
Resource Schedule:
Monday - Spanish & Music
Tuesday - PE -- make sure they wear sneakers
Wednesday - Computers
Thursday - Art & Library
