Happy new year!  I hope everyone had a restful break and is ready for school to start again.  I am!

We will jump right in with both feet this week.  In math, we will learn to estimate and count by 10's.  (We had a preview of this when we cut open our pumpkin and counted the seeds.)  We will learn about dimes and count them to $1.00.  We will also practice spending them at our pretend store.  We will begin learning AABB patterns, and will continue to reinforce all of our previously learned skills.

In Language Arts we will be learning a new kind of adjective--weather words (rainy, snowy, cold etc.).  We already know colors and numbers as adjectives, but I won't ask them to learn to read the weather words as I did the others.  We will learn two new sight words:  "are" and "in" and will practice reading these in a new predecodable book called "The Pot" Thursday night for homework.

In Bible we are going back to the story of Moses (which we left in December to concentrate on the Christmas story.)  We will pick up the story at God's call to Moses through the burning bush, briefly touch on the plagues, and get to the Red Sea by Friday.  The emphasis will be on the fact that God had a plan for Moses' life, and He has one for each of our lives as well.

In Social Studies we will review our geography, and will learn a little about our flag, and what it means to say the Pledge of Allegiance.

We have a birthday this week--Hannah will be 6 on the 6th!  When your child has a birthday you are welcome to send in a treat for the class.  We will sing to your child and enjoy the treat at our afternoon snack time. Or you can join us for lunch and we will have it then.  We welcome your participation in our class activities whenever you are able.

Be sure to check out the pictures from the Christmas party.  It was awesome!  Thanks to all who made it possible, either by coming, or by sending in goodies for us.  And many, many thanks for the generous gift cards which were given to me.  I was deeply touched by your thoughtfulness and the generosity  of the gifts.  Thanks to all who had a part.

Our monthly PTF meeting is Thursday, the 8th at 7:00.  Come if you can.  Our school is great because of the great families who support us, and that includes all of you.

     Keep in touch!
